Remains. Scraps. Dug-out and cut-up fragments—essentially the superfluous. Made yet ready for the stage. Arranged into little attractions and photographed. What appears everyday acquires an unusual aura. Trimmed cloth, corrugated metal, twisted wire, flattened and rolled strips of paper, draped gauze, or assembled gadgets attain a dignity of their own in Angela Bröhan’s work. They might recall how thoughtlessly we deal with resources, which self-confidently enter the picture here as banal objects.
The artist has remained true to the alertness and security of her artistic practice: giving space to the physical object and vividly expressing its silence. This is her third solo show at ep.contemporary, dedicated to her stilllifes and her idiosyncratic worlds.
The pictures by Angela Bröhan draw stories that are expressed in delicate, wonderful atmospheres. She lends the objects a new wholeness and infuses them with great beauty. Beauty is not banal or superficial. Beauty penetrates the depths.
A variety and disarray of colors and forms, of the recognizable and the undefined, is deftly captured with profound severity, imparting great intensity through compression, clarity, and lightness to the works. It is this intensity that embues the works with stillness and quiet, yet makes perceptible a kind of resurrection. Arousing curiosity and revealing a view through the surface of the depicted objects into their essence.

Leftovers. Fragments. Something that has been unearthed and cut to size – essentially something that has become superfluous and yet has been brought to maturity for the stage. Arranged into small attractions and then photographed. What appears everyday acquires an unusual aura. Cut fabrics, corrugated sheet metal, coiled wire, flattened and rolled strips of paper, draped gauze or utilitarian objects when put together gain a dignity of their own in Angela Bröhan's work. Placed against a dark background, they may remind us of our careless use of resources but, when they enter the image, these banal items do so with self-confidence.
The artist remains true to herself through the alertness and certainty of her artistic practice: giving the objects space and their stillness a living expression. It is her 3rd solo exhibition in the gallery ep.contemporary, in which she dedicates herself to still life and presents her idiosyncratic worlds.
The photographic works of Angela Bröhan create stories expressed in subtle, wondrous moods, in which she gives the things a new wholeness which has a great beauty. Beauty is not banal or superficial. Beauty reaches into the depths
A variety and jumble of colours and shapes, of the recognisable and indefinite, is playfully and aesthetically captured with a great rigour that imparts a high intensity to the work through density, clarity and lightness. It is this intensity that gives the works stillness and tranquility and yet makes perceptible a kind of awakening. This arouses curiosity and turns out to be a look through the surface of the things depicted to reveal something essential.

Remnants. Fragments. Rediscovered and cut - basically superfluous. And yet brought to stage maturity. Composed and photographed into small attractions. Thus the inconspicuous everyday receives an unusual aura. Cut fabrics, corrugated sheet metal, coiled wire, folded and rolled strips of paper, draped gauze, or everyday things put together gain a dignity of their own in the works of Angela Bröhan. They may remind us of our careless handling of resources, which here enter the picture as banal things as if self-confident.
